Abstract: 

The increase in the number of vehicles, as well as an increase in speeds and traffic intensity, leads to the fact that the problem of traffic safety becomes more urgent. In this regard, carrying out only constructive improvements in the vehicle is not enough to solve the problem. Making changes in the design of vehicles may not be enough if the necessary road grip is not provided, and the main indicator of good road grip is the grip ratio. And this, in turn, will affect the stability and controllability of the car. This paper investigated the influence of the type and condition of tires on the value of the grip ratio of tires with the road surface. The method of measurement was based on the measurement of values in accordance with GOST R 51709-2001. Researches have been conducted for various vehicles with both anti-lock braking system and non-ABS brake system. Also, researches were conducted for summer and winter tires on dry and wet asphalt and concrete pavements. The measurements were carried out using an instrument for evaluating the effectiveness of brake systems “Effect-02”. The values of deceleration during emergency braking by all wheels were determined experimentally. Based on the data obtained, the values of the grip ratio were calculated. The nature of the dependence of the friction coefficient on the tire type and the road surface type / condition was determined.
