Abstract: 

The forecast provides for the modernization and development of the existing railway network of the UBR JSC, excluding the commissioning of new railway lines in Mongolia.

The volume of international cargo transportation through the border crossing Sukhe-Bator (Mongolia) - Naushki (Russia) is generally linked to the load indicators of this border crossing adopted in the framework of the “General scheme for the development of the railway network of the Russian Railways OJSC for the period up to 2020”.

In accordance with the forecast, the total freight traffic through the network of the UBR JSC will increase to 34.6 million tons by 2020 (+ 65% compared to 2013), while domestic freight will reach 17.0 million tons (+ 59%), international transportation – 17.6 million tons (+ 71%).

The increase in international freight traffic is provided for mainly due to the development of the export potential of Mongolia and the increase in exports, basically from the products of the mining industry of Mongolia: increased production at the Bayangol iron ore deposits (+2.0 million tons compared to 2013), Tumurtey (+1, 0 million tons), Bargilt (+0.3 million tons) according to “Prospective volumes of cargo loading from the stations serving the existing and prospective fields in the network of the UBR JSC”.

The volume of transportation of export cargo of Mongolia in 2020 is projected in the amount of 11.8 million tons (an increase by almost 2 times compared to 2013), import cargo of Mongolia – 2.7 million tons (+ 8 %), cargo of international transit – 3.1 million tons (+ 82 %).
