Abstract: 

The article considers the problems of reliability of the mechanical part during the operation of electric locomotives of the Ermak series. The subject of the study was the gear transmission casing in the metallic version of the electric locomotive of the Ermak series, the serviceability of which depends, to a greater extent, on the track rigidity. The location of the gear transmission casing in the electric train determines its operating conditions, under which a high level of external loads is inevitable. One of the main parameters deter-mining the technical condition of the casing is its integrity and the prevention of the formation of cracks. An analysis of the damage to the components of the gear transmission casing shows that the most common cause is the formation of cracks on the casing surface, which can lead to partial or complete destruction of the gear wheel joint. As a result, it is possible to damage the gear transmission itself and the wheel-motor unit as a whole. In the case of cracks on the casing surface, it is sent to an unscheduled repair.

To prevent the formation of cracks on the gear transmission casing, the authors proposed to use automatic design systems in order to create and analyze the solid-state 3D model of the gear transmission casing, using the finite element method. The proposed system will provide determining the reasons of the formation of cracks and allow introducing proposals for their prevention. The article is of interest to specialists in the field of repair and maintenance of the mechanical part of the railway rolling stock
