Abstract: 

The aim of the work is to develop a method for the non-standard setting up of the function of time sensitivity adjustment by specific amplitude-distance-diameter diagrams with ultrasonic inspection of the rim and hub of the rolled wheel center of rolling stock of railways in the axial direction.

It is shown that the application of the classical mathematical apparatus for setting up the time adjustment function of the sensitivity is not possible, due to a change in the attenuation coefficient of the ultrasonic wave as it passes through the rim and hub cross-section in the axial direction, caused by a change in the metal structure.

A mathematical apparatus is proposed that allows setting the time adjustment function of sensitivity by specific amplitude-distance-diameter diagrams, taking into account the change in the attenuation coefficient over the cross-section of the rim and the hub of the roller wheel center.

To automate the calculation, the NDTRT-05.01 program was developed when setting the time sensitivity adjustment function.

To assess the reliability of the proposed method for setting the time sensitivity adjustment function, ex-perimental studies were carried out on a full-scale specimen from the rim of a rolled wheel center in which standard flat-bottomed cylindrical reflectors were made at the minimum, maximum depth and middle of the monitored range.

Experimental studies have confirmed the high reliability of the proposed method for setting up parameters for the time-free adjustment of the sensitivity by specific amplitude-distance-diameter diagrams with ultrasonic inspection of the rim and the hub of the rolled wheel center of rolling stock of railways in the axial direction.
