Abstract: 

Violations of operating modes in railways of Russia are widespread. About 1/3 of the total number of unplanned repairs is due to violations of the operation modes. Modern domestic locomotives are equipped with microprocessor control systems (MCS), whose main task is to control the traction drive. To implement automatic and automated control processes in the feedback circuit, data from sensors installed in circuits and on the locomotive equipment are used. The sensors measure current, voltage, pressure, temperature, speed and rotation speed, binary options (for example, on/off), etc. The main control parameters and signals from the sensors are stored in the MCS memory - usually on a hard disk of the onboard computer (display unit) installed in the driver’s cab. Implementation of algorithmic protection in on-board MCS locomotives should significantly reduce the number of violations of the operation modes (alerting the locomotive crew while recording the incident in the MCS memory), and, with respect to certain violations, it should prevent them completely by eliminating the ability to violate the operating modes of the locomotive (algorithms that do not allow the controlled parameters to exceed the acceptable operation modes). Thus, installing algorithmic protection should have a significant impact on the improvement of reliability of locomotives. The article substantiates the installation of algorithmic protection on locomotives equipped with the microprocessor control system.
