Аннотация: 

Reliable and uninterrupted power supply to consumers, in particular transport systems, largely depends on the state and proper functioning of relay protection and automation devices. It is important to study the current state of the element database of devices, analyze the damage of relay protection and automation devices and determine measures to improve the reliability of relay protection and automation in Russian electrical networks. The article uses the method of statistical analysis of data on the quantitative and qualitative composition of relay protection and automation devices for the last four years in the backbone electric grid company «Rosseti». The state of the electric grid complex is assessed, where there is a low interest of private capital in the modernization of their power industry facilities. There are trends identified in the development of the element base, as well as the causes of incorrect operation and damage of relay protection devices. A structural and functional method was used to develop measures to improve the reliability of automation and relay protection devices. There has been a tendency to reduce the total number of devices in the last 2 years, with a significant percentage of their aging, the proportion of cases of incorrect operation due to aging has reached a quarter of the total number of cases of incorrect tripping to work. The analysis of the statistics of the greatest amount of damage for different types of relay protection devices with the main causes of damage. Analysis of the available data indicates the need to upgrade the protective devices and develop measures to improve their operation reliability.
