Abstract: 

The article discusses the modeling of power consumption processes for traction at sections with a mountain track profile. Simulation modeling was carried out for a series of variants with different parameters for the schedule of the movement of freight trains, with standard-setting factors being preserved unchanged. The results obtained in the course of simulation modeling on the change in the volume of electric power consumption by the electric rolling stock and the level of energy imbalance for the existing sections of DC and AC allowed us to proceed to a description of the results based on regression analysis and the means of neural networks. After the results of different models were compared to estimate changes in the volumes of electricity consumption and electricity unbalance, the models with the best approximation results were selected, which allows them to be used to evaluate train traffic schedules by the energy efficiency criterion.
